Mimiko inaugurates council of traditional rulers

 
The new Ondo State council of traditional rulers,  headed by the Osemawe and paramount ruler of Ondo kingdom, Oba Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo, was on Thursday inaugurated by the Governor Olusegun Mimiko for a tenure of two years.

The inauguration ceremony was held at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office, Akure, where Mimiko charged the council to render selfless service to his administration as a way of collaborating with government in developing and moving the state forward.


He also charged the traditional council, which comprises of  all the first class traditional rulers and 15 others on rotational basis, to bring up good ideas and  promote peaceful co-existence among members.

He stressed the need for the traditional rulers to always advise him on matters relating to customary law, cultural affairs, inter-communal relations and chieftaincy matters, with a view to assisting government in the maintenance of public order in the state.

The governor disclosed that his administration had since inception installed 19 Obas and presented them with staff of office and instruments of appointment, adding that several others were still under consideration.

The governor paid tribute to the immediate past chairman of the council and Deji of Akure, late Oba Adebiyi Adesida, for giving the Council of Obas its pride of place among other councils  of chiefs in the country during his tenure in office.

In his response, Kiladejo noted that, during his tenure, the council would work to ensure that the prevailing peace and development in the state is sustained.

He solicited the support and cooperation of all traditional rulers  with the Ondo  State government to further advance progress in the state.
