The 1,000 students, who were admitted out of the over 6,753 qualified candidates that applied for admission to pursue various programmes in the institution, were said to be lucky following the time tested selection process that made it possible for them to be admitted.
The process, which was described by the acting Principal of the Institution, Avuakporeta Jacob, as vigorous and transparent, was to ensure that the best candidates were admitted.
The principal, while congratulating the new students during the matriculation ceremony at the PTI Conference Centre, also urged them to renounce and denounce any form of cultism if any of them were involved in it.
He said the management has zero tolerance for social vices including examination malpractices, drug abuse, cultism as well as unlawful protest, as such could jeopardise their stay in the Institution.
“Any student caught or involved in unlawful protest on campus is deemed to have breached the matriculation oath; and severe penalties will be meted out to such students. It is my hope that as you all gathered here this morning, may you all also assemble here for the convocation at the end of your career.”
The PTI, which has developed competent technical manpower that is driving the oil and gas sector, was described by the principal as a household name in the oil industry, as there is no oil company that does not have a PTI graduate in it’s employment. “You are, therefore, expected to maintain the high academic standard set by your predecessors”.
The institution, which was established by Act No 37 of September 19, 1975 to provide courses of instruction, training and research in oil technology and production of technologies and technicians for oil production, was also said to be well equipped with a team of professionals and state of the art equipments.
