Obanikoro said he had to postpone the declaration due to the intended visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to the South-West and the resumption of distribution of the permanent voter cards (PVCs) in some local government areas across the state.
He said the declaration, tagged “Walk with Me,” would now hold on December 2, 2014.
“Apologies to all of you who were already excited and anxious to attend the event this Friday. Don’t worry, we shall begin our historical journey together next Tuesday, God willing. Thank you and I look forward to seeing you there,” he said.
In a related development, preparations are in top gear to inaugurate the North-East chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lagos State. Speaking recently with the press at the party’s secretariat at Shogunle, Lagos, the chairman, Rikami Absolom, backed by the Women Leader, Asabe Elisha, and the Treasurer, Poplon Gideon, listed the objectives for the initiative.
As good ambassadors of the North-East geo-political zone, they said they have been monitoring the political terrain and are clamouring for good governance, not just for the benefit of their people but also for all peace-loving Nigerians.
With over one million people living in Lagos, out of which some 700,000 members have been registered, the people of the North-East have been meeting once in two weeks to articulate their views. Many of them have since pitched their tent with the PDP.
According to their chairman, they view the persisting Boko Haram insurgency ravaging their home states as an additional security challenge with international dimensions, which would need a collective approach to stamp it out. Towards finding an enduring solution to the menace, the members are in frequent communication with their people back home. So they appreciate the efforts and intervention of the Federal Government and donor agencies to bring succour to their displaced people in the North.
