Bayelsa principals condemn new appointments

A group of disenchanted secondary school principals in Bayelsa State has criticised the result of the recent appointment and posting of Basic Junior Secondary School (BJSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) principals by the state government.

A re-articulation committee set up by the government conducted the interview for the principals’ appointment and posting, and the committee was said to have released the result of the exercise in Yenagoa last week.

It was gathered that out of 184 schools, only 68 BJSS principals (or 37 percent) were appointed and re-articulated while 116 SSS principals (or 63 percent) were also appointed and re-articulated.

The angry principals, under the aegis of Aggrieved Principals of Bayelsa State, alleged in a statement on Wednesday that the interview was based on sentiments, instead of the prescribed parameters of “seniority, grade level and experience”.

They further alleged that the entire process was fraught with injustice and fraud.

The principals claimed that 11 vice principals who did not attend the re-articulation interview were appointed and posted to schools as substantive principals, while over 15 BJSS principals were dropped.
